The original manga ran from 1996 – 1997. In total, there were 13 compiled volumes published as well as three side story comics (one of which includes an encounter between King Kong vs. Gamera). The anime adaptation will be a 12-episode series and is set to release on Netflix on 24th June 2021.

Main Characters:

The main character of Godzilla Singular Point, Kenshiro Ogami, lives with his sister Kyoko at the Houtōjima Nuclear Power Plant which was built after World War II due to all the nuclear testing that had occurred during the war. In fact, Godzilla’s creation was directly related to this post-war experimentation!

Kyoko Ogami: Kyoko is Ken’s sister who also works at Houtōjima Nuclear Power Plant. She manages to escape from her office after Godzilla arrives, but she becomes trapped by debris before she can get out of the building.

Plot:

The original story was a thinly veiled allegory about post-war Japan’s nuclear bomb legacy; it follows Godzilla as he rampages through Tokyo in search of something to eat (the Japanese people). It also features other kaiju such as Mothra, Rodan, Anguirus, Gorosaurus, and Varan, whose names were changed from their American counterparts… Godzilla Singular Point is set to explore the psychological and spiritual impact of Godzilla on humans.

Godzilla Singular Point is set in an alternate timeline where Godzilla was never defeated. In Japan, there’s a nuclear power plant that has been operating since the post-war era, and it seems like Godzilla lives in this area because of all the radiation!

Synopsis:

Godzilla Singular Point follows the story of a Singular Point, Kenshiro Ogami. Ken lives with his sister Kyoko; at the Houtōjima Nuclear Power Plant, which was built after World War II due to all the nuclear testing that had occurred during the war. In fact, Godzilla’s creation was directly related to this post-war experimentation! Godzilla is present since WWII, and he returns in this series as humanity deals with their return decades later.

Kyoko has managed to escape from her office, but she becomes trapped by debris before being able to get out of the building when Godzilla arrives;

She is rescued by her brother, who takes care of her while they wait for rescuers to arrive…but it’s too late. Kyoko dies in Ken’s arms as Godzilla advances on the Houtōjima nuclear power plant, and she gives him a final message that he has one last duty to do for her to destroy Godzilla once and for all because humanity can’t always be saved from catastrophic events such as this.

Ken goes off by himself after his sister’s death…but soon realizes something is hunting him down! He manages to escape back to civilization but then meets Dr. Michishio, who tells him about an underground project of which he never heard before called “Project White Light.”

Spinoffs:

A spinoff series titled “Godzilla vs. Anguirus” will be released on Netflix following our hero Kenshiro as he tries to rebuild his life after being left for dead due to injuries sustained during World War II fighting Godzilla.
