Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots is back!  The animated anthology series features an eclectic mix of storytelling that could be described as part science fiction and part fable. The world is dying. When four rebels infiltrate his fortress to assassinate him in the name of freedom, they show us that there’s still good in the world. The desert was green once; it’s now covered by toxic dust storms and plagued by violent gangs of motorcycle-riding outlaws. A nomadic tribe travels across this wasteland, led by a priest (Robert Forster). When the priest’s daughter is kidnapped by a lone gunman, he sends his son out to save her.

Madeleine Knight portrayed the lead character, a young girl who sets out on a quest to rescue her kidnapped sister. The priest convinced that the resistance will be destroyed by a wave of nomadic raiders sends his son to travel through the desert and infiltrate the dictator’s fortress in the hope of rescuing his daughter. In a race against time, he tries to locate her before she is taken to one of the slave camps run by the dictator.

What are the themes?

As the cartoon is an animated anthology series, each episode carries a unique plot and theme. The show contains strong themes of love and family, freedom and corruption, and difficult journeys to redemption and survival. The main character searches for his kidnapped sister in the hope of finding a cure for their people’s poor health. When he finds her, she is taken by the dictator for interrogation. He must find a way to rescue her and discover how to overcome the dictator’s power. The climax is when the main character must rescue his sister and save the tribe from destruction. The resistance seems doomed to fail until they discover that they can overcome the dictator’s power. They find a way to tarnish his image and undermine his stronghold on power.
