Real Steel 101: The Essential Guide.
The movie Real Steel, which is based on a short story by Richard Matheson, tells the tale of Charlie Kenton, an ex-boxer who finds himself in debt to local gangsters. In order to pay off his debt and provide for his son Max, he enters the world of robot boxing. The film stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton and Dakota Goyo as his son Max.
What is the story about?
The story is about a father and son who are struggling to make ends meet. The father, Charlie Kenton, turns to robot boxing in order to make money and provide for his son. He is initially successful but his former promoter, a local gangster named Bailey (played by Kevin Durand) threatens him to pay $50 000 in order not to be exposed. He also has an outstanding debt of $150 000 that he owes to another group of mobsters and it seems like there is no way out for him.
The film is full of action and fighting as the robots battle it out in a boxing ring. The father and son team is not doing well until they find an old discarded bot named Atom who was built by Charlie’s deceased father. Initially, Max does not want to work with his dad but he eventually teams up with him after seeing how desperate his father is.

What did you think of Hugh Jackman’s performance in this movie?
I thought Hugh Jackman was great in this movie! He showed a lot of emotion and you could really feel his connection to the robot. I also thought he did a great job with the action scenes.
What challenges and problems do they overcome?
The film also highlights the relationship between father and son as Charlie tries to reconnect with his estranged son. Max doesn’t want to fight with his dad but as he witnesses the robots battling in a boxing ring and how important these fights are for Charlie, he eventually decides to help him. Max is reluctant at first when his father asks him if they could use Atom (the robot) since Max does not think it will work out well due to his inexperience. However, he eventually teams up with his dad and helps him train Atom for the next big fight.

What is the climax of the film?
The climax of the film is when Atom fights Zeus and wins. This was a really great fight scene and it was very exciting to watch! I loved how they showed the development of Atom’s fighting skills throughout the movie and he ended up being an incredibly powerful robot!
What are the themes of the film?
The themes of the film are definitely family, love and friendship. You see Max’s (Hugh Jackman) relationships with his son and robot evolve throughout the film and it is really touching to watch.
Would you recommend this film?
I would definitely recommend this film to fans of boxing, robots or just kids who like fighting films! It has wonderful action scenes and it keeps you at the edge of your seat all the way through. The acting is also very good and the pacing of the film was perfect!
