Have Disney And Scarlett Johansson Settled “Black Widow” Lawsuit?
Disney and actress Scarlett Johansson have been embroiled in a lawsuit for months. Rumors surfaced that the two parties had agreed, but were later denied by Disney’s legal team. Now, new reports are coming out that a settlement has been reached. Have they?
Why did Scarlett Johansson file a Lawsuit against Disney?
Scarlett filed a Lawsuit against Disney because of “Black Widow”. She claims she was completely blindsided when Marvel Studios announced at Comic-Con this year along with several other cast members from various movies, especially since her contract expired after Black Widow. This left her feeling like she had missed out on years of work as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff, which would explain why so many fans believe it was her who filed the Lawsuit.
Why would Scarlett Johansson want to be paid more than Chris Evans?
Scarlett is already one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, earning $20 million per movie on average. However, she’s also at that age where most female stars are starting to see their salaries decrease as they start aging out of roles and lose currency with younger audiences. That means that there will soon potentially be two huge black leads making an impact at the box office, and it’s easy to see why Marvel would want them both locked in before the inevitable happens.
Following their success so far with Black Panther/T’Challa (played by Chadwick Boseman), there is no doubt that a majority of fans will be looking forward to seeing more from Okoye, who also just got her solo comic series this year.

As per reports, both parties filed documents on Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court; indicating that they had decided for undisclosed reasons; to settle the case before it went ahead as planned next month; at trial. In addition, all legal claims against each other will be dismissed as part of this settlement deal. As such, the court will today file a request from both sides; asking for those proceedings not related to the dismissal of claims; against one another should also be dropped/dismissed.

In April of this year, Scarlett Johansson sued The Walt Disney Company for royalties; from Black Widow merchandise that used the actress’ likeness without her permission; or any compensation at all. In May, Disney countersued and claimed that it was entitled to half of whatever money Scarlett makes off these deals with third-party companies who want to use her image on their products.
Scarlett’s case against Disney is still ongoing but will now be settled as part of a broader agreement between both parties which means they’ve come up with a resolution amicable enough for them not to take the issue further in court next month when proceedings were due to begin.
