Tony Hawk is a notable skateboarder who has been skating since the 1970s. He invented many different tricks and techniques that still exist today, such as “The 900,” which consists of him spinning two-and-a-half times in midair before landing on his board (which he created at age 12!). In 2002 Tony founded Birdhouse Skateboards company with other prominent skaters from his time, including Rodney Mullen. The videos made by this very successful company are credited to be some of the best made in the sports industry!

In 2019 we were all excited for another documentary about Tony Hawks’ life and career, but if you haven’t heard yet – it won’t be coming out any time soon.

Here’s everything we know about the Untitled 2022 Project:

• In 2019, Tony Hawk announced he was working on a new series of documentaries called “The 22-Year Quest”. The idea behind it is that each year between now and 2039 will be dedicated to one project from Tony’s past.
• 2022 is the year that has been confirmed for release. It will be a documentary about his early days in skateboarding and how he became an international icon. You can watch it on YouTube Red or Amazon Prime Video when released!

Tony Hawk Official Statements about his Documentary

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on his plans for the future, Tony revealed he’s beginning to work on a new project which is “something called ‘The Untitled Tony Hawk Documentary.’”

He also said it would explore skateboarding culture and how skating shaped him as a person. When asked about whether or not there were any projects from his past that he wanted to return to, he replied, “There’s another one of these coming up my first video game Radical Skateboarding.” In addition, this year marks 25 years since the release of Birdhouse Video Company was released, so they’re planning some celebration events around that. Tony’s most recent project was to design a pro scooter, which he’s currently testing out in California and is “really stoked on it.”

The Untitled Tony Hawk Documentary is set to release sometime in 2022. Given this, it’s tough to speculate on a date or time frame for when we might see an announcement of some sort (sneak peek trailer, etc.).

The only thing that has been revealed so far about the documentary; is that there will be interviews with friends and family members; who have influenced him over the years – including his parents, wife Lhotse Merriam-Hawkins, and their children; Tommy and Maya.

It’s unclear whether they’ll all make appearances; throughout the series or if one interview per episode; would suffice, but either way, you can expect to see some of the most intimate conversations; with Tony Hawk – as well as those closest to him.

The documentary is being produced by Tony’s son, Hawk Miller. The crew includes Emmy Award-winning cinematographer and director Arturo Perez Jr., Academy Award-nominated producer Thaddeus Bogan (Birdman), as well as the remainder of his team at Boutique Films.
