San Andreas 2 Actress Alexandra Daddario About The Sequel
Dwayne Johnson’s San Andreas co-star, Alexandra Daddario, shares an update on the production of the film’s sequel. Released in 2015 and starring Hollywood heavyweight Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a rescue helicopter pilot with a personal vendetta against natural disasters a far cry from his role.
The wrestling champion turned action movie star San Andreas grossed $474 million worldwide (well past what was originally required for a sequel), sparking rumors that there would be another installment in this franchise next year.
Alexandra Daddario, the star of 2015’s disaster film San Andreas, is now working on the sequel.
The latest film starring Dwayne Johnson, San Andreas, was shaping up to be a potential franchise starter. Upon its release in 2015, this idea became more plausible as Brad Peyton was reportedly working on the sequel with New Line Cinema.
It has recently been announced that screenwriters Neil Widener and Gavin James were brought on board to pen a script centered on the eruption of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Plans for continuing the San Andreas franchise seem to have fallen through.
Alexandra Daddario, who is best known for her role in the blockbuster film San Andreas, spoke on Collider’s Ladies’ Night podcast to promote her current projects. Appearing as a guest on the show, she also gave an update about progress with San Andreas 2. As far as she knows, there is no draft of the script, and it probably won’t happen anytime soon.
As Daddario points out, sequels often enter production only to fizzle out before completion. A project can enter into this phase for multiple decades before the sequel is actually made. When it becomes a legacy, it’s not uncommon for various prequels to be developed and released. It sounds like Warner Bros. and New Line didn’t have enough interest in the movie.
Johnson starred in several other films after San Andreas, including Central Intelligence and Fast & Furious 8. Daddario also starred in the latter two movies; she plays a love interest of Johnson’s character, as well as his on-screen daughter.
While fans of The Rock might not be pleased with the news that a sequel to San Andreas is not currently in development, they should still be excited because he just filmed Jungle Cruise for Disney.
She is currently working on a TV series called The White Lotus as well as a romantic crime thriller film Die in a Gunfight. Both these projects offer her an opportunity to move away from the action-thriller genre, which had become associated with her after San Andreas 2.
