Mass Effect TV Series: Was It Cancelled or Is It Coming Back?

Mass effect tv series

Fans of Mass Effect can’t seem to get a definitive answer about the future of the TV series. There are many conflicting reports, which is why we have gathered some insights and explanations for you in this blog post. We will also discuss what we know so far about Mass Effect Andromeda.

We will go over some of the conflicting reports about the Mass Effect TV series. Some say it was canceled by BioWare, while others say that there are still plans for a new season on Netflix. The first report comes from IGN’s sources who claim the game has been canceled because “Bioware wants to focus on other games.”

Another article claims that they heard rumors of an announcement coming soon and that their internal sources confirmed this. They also mention how EA won’t make any announcements earliest due to ongoing acquisitions with Star Wars: The Old Republic studio BioWare Austin as well as Motive Studios in Montreal (founded by ex-Ubisoft exec Jade Raymond). And finally, we have Kotaku reporting that one person told them this year could be the last year for Mass Effect and that “it wouldn’t surprise them if EA’s game division was to shut down.”

What can we expect next?

The latest update on the situation is that there have been new reports of a Netflix season being in production and planned for release soon, as well as a return to games with Shadow Realms, according to IGN sources, but this has yet to be officially confirmed by Bioware themselves. There are also rumors about EA acquiring Vivendi, which could potentially lead to more Mass Effect games if it goes through (although nothing official). All we know so far is that no announcements will come from EA until they wrap up their acquisitions process and then focus on other projects like Anthem next year. If there are any updates made public after these changes happen, I’ll keep you posted!

Is it gonna come back?

This question has been on the mind of many for years. We’ve seen a lot of changes in the media industry, with companies like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime taking over our screens. So it seemed that Mass Effect would never be returning to television since there was no place to put it when you think about how saturated TV is nowadays. However, we did learn from Bioware GM Casey Hudson recently that they are looking into ways to bring back Shepard (the protagonist) after his story concluded in Mass Effect: Andromeda. This might be possible because EA does own other networks outside of its broadcast partner NBCUniversal including USA Network and Bravo, which could see potential success if used properly as an outlet for new content or even a revival on TV.

The Mass Effect movie was released in 2017, and, as is the case with many video game adaptations of movies, it was poorly received by critics and fans alike. The film earned $94 million at the box office against a budget of $100 million, which means that they would have needed to earn more than twice what they did for their investment to be even remotely successful.

And this doesn’t take into account all of the production costs either, like how much it cost them just to make one shot because apparently there are so many people involved in making these films now who contribute things such as VFX or CGI artistry (and those numbers can get ridiculously high). Even if EA wanted to try again with another Mass Effect adaptation after this, it would be difficult to fund.

At this point, it’s unclear what the future holds for Mass Effect on TV, but we can hope that one day they’ll find a way to make another cinematic adaptation with all of these cool characters and exciting stories from a new generation of fans like us who are just waiting for some live-action space adventures. In the meantime, keep an eye out for any news about either series because there might be something coming in 2021 or 2022–or maybe even later if BioWare is working on anything else!
