God’s Waiting Room is a movie about the life of a priest, Father Damien. The film starts with him in his old age when he has had to retire from service for health reasons. He reminisces on his past as he looks back at the life he led and all that it entailed. From there, we are taken through various episodes of his youth–his decision to become a priest; how he first met Sister Benedicta, who was instrumental in helping him make this choice; her death; the trials and tribulations they faced while working together as missionaries in Africa which included famine, murder, and disease epidemics.

Ultimately, God’s Waiting Room is a film about the journey of Father Damien that offers an interesting perspective on how one can reconcile personal faith with worldly suffering. It also serves as a reminder for those who have grown complacent–who think they know everything there is to know about their religion or spiritual life when really we still do not understand anything coming from our creator (but should try).
