Y: The Last Man is a comic book series that has been in the works for years now. It will finally be coming to life on television this year! Here are some things you might not know about Y: The Last Man, the upcoming television series.
What is the Release Date of the series?
Y: The Last Man has got a release date of 13th September 2021 on FX and Hulu.
What about Y: The Last Man’s Plot?
Y: The Last Man follows; Yorick Brown, an escape artist, and magician; who also happens to be a member of an enigmatic family line; that stretches back generations, untold. As the last man on Earth, with any Y chromosome, he has become humanity’s unlikely champion, charged with not only saving his kind; from extinction but defending; all life by fighting off; what seems like fate; until, ultimately, there are no more worlds left!
‘the last man’ – as in ‘mankind’s lone hope’? or just one guy (male)? What does ‘last male child’ mean?
What is Y: The Last Man about?
Y: The Last Man follows a man with the Y chromosome; that is immune to the plague. Yorick Brown; has his own problems, as he doesn’t know who killed his father; or why they have been trying to kill him and his mother; ever since. He soon learns of a terrible plague sweeping across the earth (killing every mammal on it) but not affecting people with Y chromosomes- like himself, until there’s only one left alive! So now he must find out what caused this, so no other species go extinct besides humanity…and maybe take care of some personal business while doing all that too.
Why did Hollywood want to adapt Y: The Last Man?
We’re not really sure if any big names are attached yet, but Hollywood has wanted to make Y: The Last Man into a movie for years- even as far back as 2008. At that time, it was reported that director Sam Taylor-Johnson (who’s also doing the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film) had been tapped to helm this production while Channing Tatum in discussions to play Yorick Brown and Serenity comic book creator Joss Whedon signed on as producer.
Who is starring in the series?
The original cast has been assembled and includes Diane Lane as Agent 355, Imogen Poots as Yorick’s sister Hero Brown, Barry Keoghan, who plays Yorrick’s best friend Dr. Allison Mann (and is the only person on Earth besides Yorrick to have a Y chromosome), Lashana Lynch in her role of Lieutenant Colonel Marlowe Kane-Bathurst with Marin Ireland playing Melissa McClellan while Juliana Harkavy stars as Beth Ditto.
What are some interesting things about this series?
It was later reported that Tatum would be joined by his wife Jennifer Morrison to play Claire Forrester -Yorick’s girlfriend and eventual spouse-. However, it seems like we won’t see her in the first season.
In April, FX released an official trailer for Y: The Last Man to tease their newest series coming this year, starring Barry Keoghan, Diane Lane, and Imogen Poots.
Will Every Episode Cover One Issue of the Comic?
As the series ran for 60 issues, many fans have wondered if the television adaptation would adapt a single issue per episode. If so, that would likely mean a six-season run for the show. We don’t think the series will follow that format, although nothing has been said definitively one way or the other.
Y: The Last Man is an American comic book series created by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra published by Vertigo under DC Comics, which tells the story of Yorrick Brown—the only man on Earth with a Y chromosome-and his pet monkey Ampersand, who are forced to navigate society as it rebuilds itself after all other male mammals die off because of an unknown phenomenon called “The Gendercide” – except for mice.
It was later reported that Tatum would be joined by his wife Jennifer Morrison to play Claire Forrester -Yorick’s girlfriend and eventual spouse-. However, it seems like we’ll have to wait a little longer for Y: The Last Man, as it has been confirmed that the series will not premiere until 2021. It then became clear that television is the proper route for a faithful adaptation of Y: The Last Man. In 2015, FX announced they were developing a TV series with Brian K. Vaughan as one of the series’ writers.
