About Gene Roddenberry

After Gene Roddenberry died in 1991, his wife Majel Barrett-Roddenberry acquired the rights to his biography. She passed away last year after a long battle with leukemia and caretaking her husband for 20 years before him. On January 12th of this year, Princess Leia actress Carrie Fisher died from heart disease complications. Gene’s son Rod was left as the sole voice to speak about Hollywood executives not wanting to create new Star Wars films without original cast members who have since passed on because they are too old or dead.

Gene seemed very passionate about completing work on some projects that he had been putting off until family time became more clear due to people passing like Carrie Fisher and Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, Gene’s wife, and the voice of the computer on all Star Trek series.

He was a visionary thinker in Hollywood who created several hit TV shows, including ‘The Mod Squad,’ ‘Star Trek’ & more but his crowning achievement as head writer for NBC’s original series “Police Story” (1973). The show ran for four seasons with 117 episodes total before it went off the air in 1978.

A new Gene Roddenberry Biopic script is ready and waiting for the right person to step up. Adam Mazer’s screenplay, entitled “The Great Bird of the Galaxy, Gene Roddenberry,” has been penned by a writer who was not only close with Gene but also had access to his personal archives.
