The first episode opens with Julia; waking up in her school uniform, only she isn’t at home: she’s chained by the ankle in some kind of laboratory. When someone finally enters after hours of waiting for help – it turns out to be her step-father, who tells her that this is just another test from The Society and they will come to rescue her soon enough because “she passed.”

However, as the verdict stands by Netflix. It declared on 21st August 2021 that the show would not return for a Second Season. We still don’t know if Netflix has changed the plans yet.

Why was “The Society” Season 2 Canceled?

The first and most common theory is that the show has been canceled due to a lack of promotion from Netflix. The Society Season one was not promoted very much, which allowed people on social media to question whether or not it would ever come back, but we can see now that this wasn’t what happened as multiple promotions are going around about the series, including an Instagram post of Jessica’s castmate talking about how excited she is for The Society Season two in Q&A with her fans.

But other theories suggest The Society Season One cancellation; might’ve been caused by some other reason unrelated to marketing; such as problems with production or actors contracts; ending up being signed over to another project before The Society could be finished properly.

However, Netflix gave the reason for the cancellation of the show is that the CORONAVIRUS pandemic is affecting its filming, production, and release. Due to the uncertainty of these important factors, Netflix decided to cancel the show.

The Society Season 1 Reviews and Ratings

The Society Season One received mixed reviews. The show faced criticism; for its confusing storyline and lack of character development, but it was praised for its production design and suspenseful moments. The first season has a rating on Rotten Tomatoes of 35%. The audience score is 59%, with an average rating of four out of five stars.

The Society TV series premiered to low ratings as the only live-action content available that day, according to Nielsen data obtained by Variety magazine. It wasn’t until Wednesday that numbers picked up considerably due in part because many viewers had binge-watched the entire season over two days during their weekend.
