Character Analysis for the Series

Oskar: Kevin Carroll admitted that he was drawn to the role of Oskar for its complexity. “He is not an ‘easy’ character. So I have had a lot more fun with him.” Oskar struggles with being bullied at school. And feeling disconnected from his family – especially since they are still recovering; from the death of their daughter, who drowned in a local lake; when she was just three years old. Kevin admits it’s been difficult playing such heavy scenes but also said that this kind of work has helped him grow as an actor over time.

Eli/Hedebrant: As Eli becomes friends with both boys and girls her age, Kevin points out that adults will never really understand what kids their age are going through. Kevin says, “In the past, I have played a lot of tough-guy roles, and being able to play such an emotional character is very challenging but at the same time rewarding for me.”
