Netflix Confirms the sequel of “The Old Guard”

Netflix’s adaptation of “The Old Guard” is one of the most-watched action movies, is getting a sequel!

Charlie Theron, who starred in the first film, broke the news that the script is already ready for the thrilling, action-packed sequel, and filming will begin from the very next year.

The Old Guard is based on the graphic novel penned by Greg Rucka and artist Leonardo Fernandez. The story follows a group of most immortal warriors who get outted in contemporary times and have to face the aftermath. Rucka had adopted the first graphic novel into a script for Netflix.

After the unambiguous success of the first film, it’s not surprising that Netflix is pursuing an Old Guard sequel. Granted, nothing was confirmed back in 2020; right after the movie dropped, Rucka told SYFY WIRE, “there will be discussions of a sequel, I’m sure,” if the film did well.”The film did well, and Rucka and Fernandez have two graphic novels ready for adaption.

Plot Summary

The Old Guard is set in the future during a time when immortals have emerged and are living among humans. These immortal warriors get outted after centuries of successful secrecy and must face the consequences on their own before they’re hunted down by an army bent on wiping them from existence. The sequel continues to follow Honor, Pallas, Cassandra Ivar (a new character), Leonidas II (Leonard’s son who may be trying to track his father down), as well as other “Old Guard” members not seen in the first film.

It has been confirmed that Charlize Theron will be playing the protagonist of The Old Guard, and Mel Gibson will play her mentor/father figure (Pallas). Noomi Rapace was announced to join the cast on May 23, 2018, which marks her first return to an action-heavy role since Prometheus or Lucy. She’ll be playing Cassandra Ivar, a new character for this film. Jim Caviezel and Connor Swindells are also joining the cast with no other information available at present, but it’s expected they’ll fulfill similar roles to those who have been announced.

Netflix has confirmed they’re working with Charlize Theron and her production company Denver & Delilah Productions for the film’s development. Noomi Rapace also created a feminist company called Company Films which she’ll share with fellow actor/co-founder Alicia Vikander, so it was no surprise when the two actresses came together over this project as well.
