The Suicide Squad 2 Release Date

The Suicide Squad sequel is set to be released in August 2021. The first movie was released in 2016, so about three years later we’re going to see the second one. While this might seem like a long time for us, it’s normal for Hollywood studios who release their movies and TV shows between September-March. We can already start speculating what will happen next since there are only nine months left until the premiere date!

What is “The Suicide Squad”?

The Suicide Squad is a team of a group of anti-heroes imprisoned by the government in exchange for time served. They are sent on black ops missions to save the world from supervillains, and they can die during their task which will result in them being dead or alive again depending on how successful their mission was. The word “suicide” refers to someone who willfully kills themselves because they cannot be reasoned with otherwise. A squad is an organized team that accomplishes tasks together so this all makes sense!

Plot Details of Suicide Squad II

We don’t know much about Suicide Squad II yet. But from what David Ayer has said; in interviews; with different outlets, he would love to keep Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) as part of the squad; if possible. The sequel will also be introduced to the public with a new villain. Who has not yet been revealed. It’s still unclear how it will fit into the universe of Suicide Squad and we have no idea what other characters or villains might join our squad in this next instalment!

What was Suicide Squad about?

The last time we saw our squad of villains and anti-heroes together (minus Rick Flag), they were on their way to stand trial for their crimes. Amanda Waller had a plan all along though – she wanted them to go free so that they could help save the world from an even greater threat: The Enchantress. They succeeded at doing just that by defeating this villainess with Quicksilver’s power as one of its weapons. But what does life after saving the world look like? It looks pretty bleak when you’re stuck in prison again.

What can we expect from the sequel?

Judging by the teaser trailer, we can expect an action-packed journey with a new and improved Suicide Squad. There’s always room for improvement after all! We might see more of Rick Flag in this sequel too – he was absent for most of the first film – but we know that some other members from our original squad will be back to lend a hand. This includes Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje).

Viewers were also introduced to two new characters: Slipknot is played by Adam Beach who has starred in such films as Avatar, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and G.I Joe: Retaliation; while The Joker is played by Jared Leto who has starred in Suicide Squad (2016), Dallas Buyers Club (2013) and Requiem for a Dream (2000).

Star Cast for the Sequel

We know that Margot Robbie will be back for Suicide Squad II, but she’s not the only one we can expect to see again. Jai Courtney and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje have also been confirmed as returning cast members. It’s unclear if Viola Davis will return or not, but David Ayer would love her in the sequel if possible!

Can we expect to see some popular faces in the new movie?

This sequel will be introducing a new villain, who has not yet been revealed. It’s still unclear how it will fit into the universe of Suicide Squad and we have no idea what other characters or villains might join our squad in this next instalment!

Will all the original stars from The Suicide Squad 1 return for the sequel?

There are rumours of new songs from Fergie, Justin Timberlake, Kesha and more to come which will be perfect if the first film’s soundtrack was anything to go by. It seems that they’re really making this sequel worth watching with all these improvements.
