This book will be written by Daniel Wallace from Abrams Books publishing company. It takes place about seventeen years after Return of the Jedi, which was released on May 25th, 1983 (Abrams). This makes it set during the original trilogy time period but after Han Solo died at Jabba’s Palace, as seen in said movie.

Who will be in as cast?

Claudia Gray, author of the acclaimed Star Wars novel Lost Stars and through-lines in Leia: Princess of Alderaan and Bloodline, will write the series. Giancarlo Volpe, director on both Daredevil Season One and Avatar The Last Airbender, is set to direct an episode. Executive producers Dave Filoni (Star Wars Rebels) and Kathleen Kennedy (Avengers Endgame). And Favreau himself also plays a role in Mandalorian as well as directing its episodes.

The Book of Boba Fett was originally announced at Celebration Chicago in March 2019. It’s now been confirmed that it’ll be arriving this fall – sometime between October 2020 to December 2020! Sometime after “Mandalorian,” season one of six episodes premieres.

So what can we expect from the series- the book to be about?

“The Book of Boba Fett will be an in-world journal told from the point of view of bounty hunter Jango Fett’s clone son, Boba. The book shares never before seen stories about the father and son duo during their time on Kamino as well as detailing events that happened around them.” (Abrams)

Also mentioned is “the story starts with a flashback to just after Yoda’s death at Geonosis and ends with Darth Vader exacting his revenge against the rebels who destroyed the Death Star” (Abrams). This sounds like it may contain spoilers for those unfamiliar with these movies, so proceed cautiously!

Is The Book of Boba Fett actually the third season of The Mandalorian?

No, it isn’t. Although sections of Star Wars fandom speculated that The Book of Boba Fett might be a completely retooled third season of the parent show, shifting the focus from Din Djarin and Baby Yoda to Boba Fett, it’s now been confirmed that the two series are distinct entities.

“[The Book of Boba Fett] is actually separate from season 3,” Favreau said in his Good Morning America interview. He also confirmed that the new show is currently in production, as well as revealing a logo that shares the livery of Fett’s famous armor.

When will it air on?

Boba Fett is getting his own Star Wars series. At the very end of The Mandalorian season 2 episode 8, Disney and Lucasfilm revealed that The Book of Boba Fett would be released in December 2021. The Boba Fett spin-off show will be available on Disney+ and Disney+ wherever available. Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett will be joined by Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand on The Book of Boba Fett, which is now one of eight live-action Star Wars series — including The Mandalorian — in total.
