Doctor Who Season 13: Release Date, Casting Updates, Plot Details, and Rumoured Twists!

Doctor Who Season 13

Doctor Who Season 13 is coming soon! Doctor who has been a popular show since the 1960s, and it’s currently in its twelfth season. The series follows the adventures of an alien time traveller known as “the Doctor” (who may be a woman) as they travel through space and time in their TARDIS, which is disguised to look like an old-fashioned British police box. It’s full of mysteries, excitement, romance, drama, humour – you name it!

Doctor Who has been praised for how inclusive it concerns gender equality and representation. The first episode aired on September 19th, 1963, with William Hartnell playing the doctor’s role. In October 2017, we will have our first female Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker. Doctor Who is a show that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and it’s perfect for any age group.

Spoilers:

The Doctor has been captured by her arch-enemy Missy in an attempt to trap the Doctor’s friends from inside their own minds. As they try to figure out how to escape this situation, every clue seems connected somehow with suspiciously familiar characters – Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart was once General Curcio… but he died long ago! And what about Mrs. Rossini? She must be very old now…but she will never die because she doesn’t exist at all! Now that they know the truth, how can the Doctor and her friends escape?

The Cast for Doctor Who Season 13:

This season, we are lucky to have an excellent guest cast, including John Simm as The Master (a character from Doctor Who’s history who has appeared in both shows). We also get Jodie Whittaker’s partner Katherine Kelly returning for an episode. In addition, Bill Potts will be travelling with two new female companions – Yasmin Khan and Ryan Sinclair!

Release Date Speculations:

Luckily, the 2021 New Year’s special had already been filmed before lockdown, so it could air on time. With filming — reduced from the usual 10 episodes down to eight — expected to wrap around August or September, the BBC told Radio Times they’re planning for a 2021 premiere. However, that would leave only about three to four months for editing and promotion. With the reduced workload, however, it’s possible we could see the first episode premiere sometime in December, carrying the season into January or February of 2022 if they stick to a weekly schedule.

Plot Hints:

The Doctor’s new companion, Yasmin Khan (played by Mandip Gill), is also a young woman with the untapped potential to be something really amazing. And if her Diner A-Team tease was anything to go by, she might not even stay on Earth for long before heading out into space again — hopefully, this time without another pesky lockdown that forces her to abandon it all and come back home. The Doctor will likely see his own regeneration in Season 13 as well… but considering we’ve seen three different Doctors in just two seasons so far, who knows what could happen?

Rumoured Twists:

With Chris Chibnall having left after writing the season finale of Series 11, rumours have been circulating about the type of Doctor Who Season 13 will be like. There are some reports that the next season might explore a time period other than Earth or introduce new villains such as Daleks, Cybermen, and Ice Warriors to give them more screen-time before they regenerate into their new forms.

Jessica Hynes has also revealed she’ll reprise her role of Jenny Flint for one episode only, which could hint at what’s coming up this year!

Chibnall wrote his own regeneration story for Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, so what will the new showrunner’s story be?

We’ll update this page as we find out more information about season 13! So stay tuned.
