The Toxic Avenger is returning one more time, and this time he’s looking for a new villain to take on. The movie released its first trailer recently, and it looks like we can expect the same humor that made the original so great. In addition to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Toxie will be joined by other big-name actors such as Hulk Hogan and UFC legend Ronda Rousey. But who will end up being his nemesis? What are they going to do with him in this reboot? We’ll just have to wait and see when it releases next year!

The reboot of an iconic cult film, “Toxic Avenger,” is about a group of strangers who are tortured and left for dead by the evil Mr. Wannabe on New Year’s Eve 1999; only to be resurrected as superheroes after being immersed in toxic waste from a leaking barrel. Their newfound superpowers include increased strength, speed, and durability – not to mention their ability to project vomit onto the faces of unsuspecting evildoers (aka bad guys).

The story begins on New Year’s Eve 1999. The city has been saved from the evil Mr. Wannabe by our hero, who is tortured and left for dead but resurrected after being immersed in toxic waste spilled from a leaking barrel of radioactive material. After discovering his newfound superpowers, he becomes a superhero called “The Toxic Avenger” with an army of kids fighting against the forces of evil!  Their ultimate goal is to find the criminal mastermind known as Mr. Wannabe and bring him justice once and for all! The Toxic Avenger reboot will have a mixture of CGI and live-action. The main character is played by Robert Englund, who most recently portrayed Jason Voorhees in 2009’s remake of Friday the 13th! In this movie, he plays both Mr. Wannabe and his twin brother, Melvin Soggy-Bottom (also known as “Soggy” or “Mel”). The film was directed by Wishmaster director David DeCoteau with a co-direction from Joe Lynch. It also features an original score composed by John Ottman (“Superman Returns”, “X-Men”).  This is one reboot for which we can’t wait to see more!

Synopsis:

The Toxic Avenger is a 1984 American superhero comedy film about a high school student who develops superpowers after being accidentally coated with toxic waste and subsequently becomes known as The Toxic Avenger. It was directed by Lloyd Kaufman, produced by Troma Entertainment for $200,000 (equivalent to roughly $613,757 in 2017), shot on location in New Jersey over 14 days during summer 1983. To date, it has spawned three sequels and an animated TV series spin-off that premiered in 1989 called “Toxic Crusaders”. All have been distributed exclusively through home video releases. In 2010, the original producer Michael Herz commented that he would like to see another sequel made but there were no plans at the time.
