What are the challenges they face ?

The challenges that the team face in The Flash Season Eight are mainly internal. Barry is struggling with his own self-doubt and guilt .  Which affects his ability to be the superhero that Central City needs. Iris is also dealing with her own issues as she tries to come to terms with being a meta-human. Caitlin is also struggling to control her Killer Frost side, which often puts her at odds with the rest of the team. Cisco is also trying to find his place on the team, as he deals with his own insecurities. Lastly, Jesse L. Martin’s Joe West is trying to deal with the loss of his wife and the fact that he now has to raise two superpowered children on his own. These internal struggles are what make The Flash Season Eight so compelling, as the characters are forced to deal with their own demons while still trying to save the city.

The main antagonist of The Flash Season Eight is the big bad, Clifford DeVoe AKA The Thinker. His motives are simple: to enact revenge on Team Flash for foiling his plans in the past and to create a world where only the intelligent survive. In order to do this, he has been kidnapping geniuses and using their brains to create a thinking cap that will allow him to boost his own intelligence. The climax of The Flash Season Eight occurs in the two-part episode “The Trial of The Flash.” In this episode, Barry finally stands trial for the murder of Clifford DeVoe and faces off against his nemesis one last time.
