The series follows the lives of a group of friends, their family members and others in the fictional small town of Hawkins, Indiana in 1983. Children with psychokinetic powers and telepathic abilities, along side a few “normal-ish” children help solve supernatural mysteries while confronting typical coming-of-age challenges such as bullying and social shifts. The new season takes place in 1984 – one year later than before (because you know how time flies…sigh) – where Will has escaped from the Upside Down .
What is the plot of the story ?
The main characters discover that a young boy, Will Byers has been kidnapped by “The Upside Down”, an alternate dimension where Will is held captive. Eleven and her friends Mike, Dustin and Lucas go on a journey to save Will from the evil forces of Hawkins National Laboratory (a scientific research institution) and the Demogorgon (a monster born from an egg called the “Upside Down”). After finding out about Will’s escape from The Upside Down, Eleven and also her group of friends start to investigate his whereabouts.
Who is in the cast ? What role did each character portray ?
The cast include Gaten Matarazzo , Charlie Heaton, Finn Hopper, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Caleb Holland, Millie Bobby Brown ,Priah Ferguson, Jonathan Slinger and Maya Hawke . The main character roles are played by the actors themselves or by their child actor with the exception of Heather Duke who portrayed the mother of Eleven in Season 3. Winona Ryder and David Harbour appear as Joyce Byers, the mother of Will and Jonathan Byers, the older brother of Will. Nancy Wheeler , played by Natalia Dyer, is a young woman who finds herself stepping up as they begin to discover dark secrets about Hawkins Lab. She’s been a fan favorite ever since season one (and her puffy-sleeve sweater) because she knows how to handle whatever comes her way.
What are the difficulties they face ?
Eleven learns from her mother (El) that the Demogorgon escaped during their battle in Season 3 and has been wreaking havoc on the rest of the world. El tells Eleven to work with Hopper and Joyce to capture it. Upset after her mother leaves, Eleven goes to Mike’s house and overhears his parents talking about sending him away. She uses her powers to stop time, including Mike’s dad, who is then convinced she is extraordinary. Like in previous seasons, there is a heavy emphasis on friendship and family. The arrival of the new kid, Max (Sadie Sink), introduces a love triangle that’s reminiscent of the original film. The themes in this season are pretty similar to other seasons, except they deal more with loss and also grief.
Who is the antagonist ? What are its motives ?
The series features the same characters from season 1, with a few new characters such as Max and Billy. The main antagonist is the Mind Flayer, an “evil” entity who was once trapped in The Upside Down but has managed to reproduce itself and spread its control over Will’s body. It wants to take over Hawkins, Indiana and uses Will’s body as its main body of influence. In order to capture Will, El and company must work with Mike’s parents, who are now employed by Hawkins Lab.
What are the epic scenes ?
Eleven and Mike find the Mind Flayer manifested in Billy, the bully from Mike’s school. They confront him, and Billy’s large body of blood minions swarm the school and attack El and Mike. Hopper arrives, throwing a canister of “Joyce’s Miracle Pills” which turns into a massive smoke monster that eats all of the blood-demons and turns them into golden butterflies.
The most loved character is Eleven, the half-human and half-otherworldly child whose ability to stop time proved extremely useful in saving the day. She has a special connection with Will . Which allows her to see through his eyes so she can detect the Mind Flayer’s control on him. Her extraordinary skill in using the powers of telekinesis and also psychokinesis is a huge asset to them all as they try to solve the mystery of Will’s disappearance.
Would you recommend watching this ?
