Stranger Things Season 4 volume 2: Poster teases an action, Vecna vs Eleven.

The second volume of Stranger Things Season 4 brings us back to Hawkins, Indiana and its most famous resident, Eleven. Her story is central to the narrative in this volume as she ventures out into the world on her own. Meanwhile, at home in Hawkins, Mike spends time with a new girl, Max. Elsewhere things are not going so smoothly for Will and Hopper who still have not found a way to destroy The Mind Flayer.

What is the plot of the story ?

A week has passed since Joyce has captured the Stranger Things and Bob has been holding them in the basement. Joyce and Hopper are staying at Bob’s house for the time being until they can return to their home. The next morning, she wakes up to see Hopper staring down at her, with an odd look on his face. He tells her that she and El should leave the house immediately and never look back. He says that he’ll explain when they get to where they are going but doesn’t mention where exactly El or Will are going or why he needs them to come with him.

Who is in the cast ? What role did each character portray?

The cast include Finn Wolfhard , Millie Bobby Brown , Noah Schnapp , Caleb McLaughlin , Maya Hawke , Gaten Matarazzo , Natalia Dyer , Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery and David Harbour. Finn Wolfhard plays Mike Wheeler. In this volume, we see him bonding with a new girl named Max who is the daughter of his neighbour who happens to be the Vice Principal for his school.
Millie Bobby Brown portrays Eleven. At home, we see her with her mother Joyce Byers and sister El, who is now fourteen years old.

What are the difficulties they face ?

The girls and Will are carrying a heavy burden of guilt, dreading the return of The Mind Flayer. Meanwhile, at home in Hawkins, Mike tries to connect with his girlfriend Max in a very unconventional way. From the Hopper’s basement, Bob is busy trying to survive in the aftermath of his defeat. In Boston, Jonathan and Nancy are getting very little sleep as they try and figure out what Bob has been up to.

What are the themes ?

Several themes are explored in the Volume 2. It explores various forms of guilt and redemption. The novel reflects on the challenges that a young girl faces when she’s forced to grow up quickly, and the hardships a parent faces when put in an impossible situation. The theme of identity is also central to this volume as some of characters struggle with balancing their own identity with their need to belong to something bigger than themselves.

Who is the antagonist ? What are its motives ?

The main antagonist in this volume is The Mind Flayer. They are after El and Will. However, they are not the only villains in this volume as a new group of villains is introduced. Identical twins Billy and Maxine ‘Mad Max’ Mayfield, who survive on an island on their own, have formed a cult called the ‘The True Knot’, consisting of approximately forty people. It is determined that they are all infected with The Mind Flayer and want to reach out to his army in order to purify the world and create utopia for themselves. While the children continue their search for El, they will eventually come face-to-face with the True Knot while they are investigating the disappearance of several children from Hawkins.

What are the epic scenes ?

The climax of the novel is when Eleven, who was captured and experimented on by The Mind Flayer, starts to find her true self. One scene that the novel contributes a lot to is when Eleven gathers up all the remaining members of the Mind Flayer’s army, ready to destroy them, but instead becomes a part of them – she gives herself to The Mind Flayer claiming it is her time to die. In this way she redeems herself by joining with him in death and then turns into a monster and chases after them before finally dying.

Would you recommend watching this ?

Stranger Things is one of the most successful television series that was released in 2016. The show received positive reviews after it was released. However, there were flaws in the initial production, resulting in a less than perfect product which fans felt disappointed by. That said, even though the first season had flaws and was not received with as much enthusiasm as hoped by many fans, it laid solid foundations for the second season. Thanks for reading !
