My Policeman: Harry Styles is seen playing a gay cop role in this drama film.

In 1950s Britain, men were arrested and prosecuted for homosexual acts. One such policeman was Tom, who on the Brighton coast falls in love with a schoolteacher. However, he soon begins an affair with another man, unbeknownst to his wife and colleagues. It’s a clandestine relationship that goes on for many years until Tom is finally detected and arrested by the police force of which he is so proud of being part of – only now against his will. He has been forced out of the closet by his own colleagues and employer as a result of their prejudices against homosexuals.

The plot is that of a gay policeman who falls in love with another man on the seashore. He then gets caught up in a secret affair after his wife discovers him. Rejected by his loved ones, he goes on to suffer criminal prosecution, prison and an early death from AIDS. Even though homosexuality was illegal, England still had its own form of type of policing with regard to sex. In a way, this was a way in which the author was making a statement regarding many things like homosexuality being illegal and at that time there still being homophobia.

The cast include Harry Styles , David Dawson , Mitch Hewer , Louisa Connolly-Burnham , Mark Ryland and Tom Hardy . The main actors playing the characters are Tom, his wife, his lover, his colleague and his best friend. Although all the actors give great performances, Harry Styles is particularly superb as Tom in the film. He was brilliant in delivering dialogue and showing all manner of emotions through facial expression and body language. This role really helps to cement his legacy as an excellent actor.

What are the difficulties they face ?

The difficult thing for Tom is coming to terms with his sexuality, coming out and having to face the consequences of having a homosexual relationship. He has to decide whether it is worth fighting for what he wants or playing along with the rules of society that do not agree with his own. The climax of the film is when Tom faces investigation and prosecution for having a homosexual relationship. He has to come to terms with the reality of being an illegal criminal as a result of his sexuality. He has to decide whether he can accept that it is society’s fault for making him a criminal or fight against the system.

Who is the antagonist ? What are its motives ?

The antagonist is society in general. The antagonist doesn’t just want to be seen as a hero, but also wants to be the absolute law. He wants to fight for everyone’s rights, but ends up pushing Tom out of the closet. No matter how hard he tries to appease society with his supposed dedication and loyalty, Tom can never accept that he is being pushed out of what was once a safe haven for him.

What are the epic scenes ?

The most important moment in the film is when Tom watches his lover die on a beach. This scene is where the whole idea of homosexuality being illegal is shown to be not just a metaphor but a real thing that will happen to any gay person who accepts himself. Tom watches his lover’s death after he confesses their relationship to him. He knows the consequences of having an illegal relationship, but he still tries to fight for it and has this death occur so that society can understand how painful it truly is for gays in general to live in fear.

Who is the most loved character ?

The most loved character is his lover, Jack. Everyone truly feels sorry for him when he dies and even though he was gay, this did not make him any less of a person. He was just like anyone else and trying to fight for his life and love. No one wanted to see him die and it definitely shows the strength of the film when everyone comes together to help Tom cope with the loss of his last hope to live happily ever after.

I would definitely recommend watching this film to anyone. It is a good movie to watch in order to understand homosexuality in its true form. The film might be a bit lengthy, but the story line is awesome and the ending is beautiful.
