Who is the antagonist ? What are its motives ?

The antagonist in the story is an old friend of Michael’s named John. John’s motives for doing all of these things are to make Michael miserable, so he can have him back. He doesn’t get why Michael left, and he just assumes that it is because Michael wants to be a woman . John treats Michael like dirt and calls him “it” .The epic scenes in the story are when Michael confronts his children and tries to explain to them what has happened. He is trying to tell them that their mother isn’t a lesbian, but neither one of them listen to him. His daughter thinks it’s hilarious and tells him that he is “lame”. His son thinks that he’s crazy, because he can’t understand why his mom would leave a lesbian for their dad. Michael sees this as an opportunity for his children to say something about the divorce, but instead he gets nothing .
