The Goon is one of the best Canadian sports-comedy comic books of all time. It’s a hilarious and action-packed parody of hockey with a brooding, antihero protagonist who does whatever it takes to win. The Goon stars in his own comic strip, written and illustrated by Doug Moench from 1995 until 2008 when he retired from the strip due to health concerns.
What is the plot of the story ?
The Goon tells the story of Eric “the Goon” Spleen, a bouncer with a heart of gold only looking out for his teammates and his sweetheart Desiree. The action takes place in the fictional town of New Chinatown which is based on Minneapolis, Minnesota. The protagonist is joined by all kinds of quirky characters, including Franky (the goalie), Zombie (a psychopathic zombie and hockey player), Labels Labels ,
Who is in the cast ? What role did each character portray ?
P Here are a list of characters and their roles, as followed : A lead player who is originally from a wealthy family that disowned him for not taking care of his studies and going into hockey. He has great fighting skills and always wants to do whatever it takes to win. An enforcer who is basically an evil zombie with the heart of gold, the protagonist’s best friend. A tough-as-nails chick in a manly way who usually drinks beer and chews tobacco, she has feelings for the protagonist, but doesn’t want to show it.
What are the difficulties they faced ?
The team faces many rough times, especially with the players’ girlfriend, who often causes them problems. Also, the team has been relegated from the “National Hockey League” to a minor league with their most recent game in danger of being cancelled because of injuries similar to those suffered by its star player. In addition, the head coach Andy LaBonte is also terminally ill, and wants his players to pay him back for all his hard work throughout the years. The story follows the theme of fighting for what’s right. While the world is against them, they keep trying, no matter how hard it is. They never stop believing in themselves and do whatever it takes to win, even if it means beating up other players, who clearly hate them.
Who is the antagonist ? What are its motives ?
The antagonist in the comic is known as “The Judge”. He is said to be the “leader of the Nine Inch Nails” and also a great judge of hockey. He believes that many of the players on the Goon’s team, namely Seann William Scott ‘s character, are outcasts because they don’t try hard enough. This makes him a kind of person who has great hatred for those he sees as slackers or who don’t give 100% on their games. Even though he has his own good points, his hatred is something that causes more harm than help.
What are the epic scenes ?
The biggest fight in the comic is about to take place, and it is quite a good one! The Goon and his teammates are facing against their bitter rivals, the “Goonsters”. After seeing them beat their team with the same tactics they’ve used before, they finally decide to use something new. They have a hockey war after hours against them by using only the “Goons” jerseys. The last game of their season was cancelled, but they still won because of their amazing teamwork!
Who is the most loved character ?
The most loved character in the comic is Labels Labels. He is a sort of savior to the Goon because he helps him get back his house. This small piece of paper had a lot of power, and he knew how to use it!
