Season 4 of Atlanta is a fascinating exploration of the American Dream and what it means to be successful. Along the way they come face-to-face with social and economic issues touching on race, relationships, poverty, status, and parenthood.
What is the plot of the story ?
The main plot revolves around the cousins’ desire to make it in Atlanta’s hip-hop scene. They fail, and they fail repeatedly. The show examines these attempts through their interactions with real-life rappers (such as Ludacris and Gucci Mane), poverty, crime, sex, relationships, parenthood, and other aspects of the American dream.
Who is in the cast ? What role did each character portray ?
The cast include Donald Glover , Brian Tyree Henry , Lakeith Stanfield , Zazie Beetz and others like the rapper Big Boi . Donald Glover plays Earnest ‘Earn’ Marks, who struggles with being successful in the rap scene. Brian Tyree Henry plays his cousin Alfred Miles, whose success in the rap scene is defined by his lack of a moral compass. Lakeith Stanfield portrays Darius, Earn’s best friend who is trying to make ends meet while being addicted to cocaine and other drugs. Zazie Beetz plays Van, a mother who relies on her daughter as an outlet in order to be happy.
What are the difficulties they faced ?
Earn has a baby on the way, and he is not ready to be a dad. He tries to take care of the situation by giving up his daughter (after learning that she is healthy) because he’s more worried about his rap career than being a father. Alfred is in debt to a gangster named Earnest ‘Paper Boi’ Marks, and he’s forced to make bad decisions that affect him and his family. Van has an unhealthy relationship with her baby’s father, who verbally and physically abuses her for trying to become independent from him.
Who is the antagonist ? What are its motives ?
The antagonist is the gangster Paper Boi, who is Earn’s cousin. He has a lot of money, but he has to make a lot of bad decisions in order to get it. His motives are to maintain his lifestyle and keep himself out of trouble with the law.
What are the epic scenes ?
The final episode is amazing. We see Earn ‘Earn’ Marks perform on stage and we realize how much he’s changed as a person and an artist. We see Van try to maintain her dignity while being abused by her baby’s father. Also, we see him dressed as Batman and Alfred finally accepts that he is successful in the rap scene . Because of his work ethic . Not because of his appearance or legacy.
Who is the most loved character ?
The most loved character is Earn because he goes through all of these ups and downs in his life, and he does it all for his daughter. The most hated character is Paper Boi because he has a lot of money but still makes bad decisions that put him in jail, which is ironic because the show illustrates how hard it is to stay out of jail even if you have a lot of money due to government regulations and corrupt politicians.
Would you recommend watching this ?
I would definitely recommend watching this because it provides a lot of social commentary about class issues in America, the nature of success and failure, the American dream and what it takes to achieve it, what impact a child has on a person’s life despite their lack of interest in parenthood, as well as other aspects that we connect with emotionally but don’t always have the opportunity to discuss.
