As the latest installment of one of the most iconic movie franchises in cinema history, Mission: Impossible 7 promises to be an intense spy thriller, but with a twist. Tom Cruise is back in what he considers his most demanding role yet. Ethan is going rogue in the new film as he hunts after a corrupt arms dealer who’s planning an attack somewhere in Europe.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ star Tom Cruise discusses his love of action films

Tom Cruise caught the attention of movie audiences in 1986 with his portrayal of daredevil pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the hit film Top Gun. He and director Tony Scott created an iconic character, one that is still relatable today. Some 30 years after he first took to the skies, Tom Cruise is back at it again – but this time on a much smaller scale- as he embarks on his latest sure-to-be blockbuster: Mission: Impossible 7! And thanks to a recent interview by Entertainment Weekly’s Stephen Galloway, we can now see how much Tom Cruise is still passionate about movies despite starring in some of the biggest blockbusters of all time.

Tom Cruise says: “Story is everything. Whether it’s a good story or a bad story- I just love being caught up in a great narrative. If a movie can do that, then I don’t care if it’s something as big as Top Gun or as small as The Outsiders. It can be anything where the story has you in its grip and you’re on the journey with it.” Previously titled Mission Impossible 7, the upcoming film will not be a direct sequel to 2011’s Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol- which served as director Brad Bird’s first installment in the franchise (as well as his final one). Instead, the next film will pick up where 2015’s Rogue Nation left off.
