The “Paprika” TV Series Will Be Directed By Cathy Yan

In a major coup for Hollywood, Cathy Yan has been tapped to direct Warner Bros.’ “Paprika” series. Yan will also serve as executive producer and showrunner on the project. According to Deadline, the project is described as “a psychological thriller of a young female criminal psychologist who finds herself caught in two conflicting mindsets – one that takes over during her dreams (in which she’s an active participant), and another under her waking life”. It’s not clear whether or not this indicates that they’re planning on adapting Murakami’s novel into a TV drama, but if so then Yan would be the first Asian woman to direct an American television series.
