Story of The Undeclared War

In what would be one of his first major film roles, Matthew Broderick stars as David Lightman, a high school student, and hacker who unwittingly taps into the Defense Department’s war computer after fooling around on one of the department’s unlisted computer terminals during an exam. Military officials are told that either David is at the terminal or someone online is pretending to be him. David and his girlfriend Jennifer Mack (Ally Sheedy) are alerted to their computer’s newfound powers after getting a message from the department: “You’ve hacked into the Land of OZ,” it reads in part. “We have nothing to lose. Please help us. Sincerely, The Citizens of OZ.”

Along with David’s friend, Bill Warburg (Louis Tripp), they try to figure out how to get people out of harm’s way while trying not to attract attention. In the meantime, government officials suspect a foreign power is behind the hacking and send an agent named Torel (Dan Aykroyd) over to investigate.
