The Last Of Us HBO

It’s been a long time, but Naughty Dog is finally returning to the world of The Last of Us with a TV show. After years of rumors and speculation, the production company has officially confirmed that we can expect an unforgettable adventure this January. What’s more, co-creator Neil Druckmann has shared the first look at an emotional moment from the trailer. You can see Ellie looking rather distressed as she tries to clean up her friend Riley’s blood in what appears to be a hospital room. And her actions have had an impact on the viewer. According to Naughty Dog, The Last of Us is going to be a 10-episode series based on the PlayStation-exclusive first-person shooter and survival horror game of the same name. Beyond that, not much is known about the show other than it will focus on a different cast than Joel and Ellie. In addition, we’ll see various characters from throughout the games in new roles or altogether different ones. This show gets at exactly what these games get at, Druckman told Entertainment Weekly.

What is the series about?

The Last of Us is an upcoming action-adventure series on HBO. The series took place 20 years after the world has been destroyed by a fungus and will follow Joel who has been hired to smuggle Ellie out of an oppressive school zone, what starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal heartbreaking journey as they both must travel cross country and depend on each other for survival. Both Joel and Ellie are looking for something more than just survival, but hope that they can find it in each other. The Last of Us began as a video game, was incredibly successful, and sold over 8 million copies. A deal with Sony to adapt the game into a film fell apart. An option that was written into the contract for a television series. It was recently announced that the show would be part of an action/adventure genre on HBO.

Why should you watch this series?

If there is one thing we learned from the game it’s that The Last of Us story is incredibly powerful. It’s hard to watch without getting emotional, the two main characters Joel and Ellie are powerful and realistic, and each holds a world of history behind them. Naughty Dog so far has been fairly spotting on with its films (Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune) and games (Uncharted 4). But also able to be adventurous in stories that many wouldn’t think would work such as Crash Bandicoot. The 10-episode series will explore themes such as love, hate, survival, and more through these two characters (Gamespot). This series has received much hype within the gaming community, with good reason. The Last Of Us is a harsh world, everything from the setting to the characters it can be tough to watch what happens but that all changes depending on your connection with them, that’s one thing about this series I’m excited about.

What is the targeted audience?

The average target audience of the show is 13 and up. The series is expected to be family-friendly, with age-appropriate scenes (HBO). Naughty Dog expects that some who play the games may enjoy the show as well, but does not intend for this series to be a game or a movie about video games.
