The Semi-Autobiographical Film ‘The Fabelmans’ By Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award-winning The Fabelmans is the director’s coming-of-age story, but this one comes through the eyes of the fictional Sammy Fabelman, played by Gabriel LaBelle. Set in Arizona, this film chronicles the discovery of a life-changing family secret. The Fabelmans is a semi-autobiographical Spielberg’s coming-of-age saga, but it does not exist in reality. It’s a story about the fictional Sammy Fabelman played by Gabriel LaBelle who works as an assistant director on Spielberg’s short-lived television series called “Mr. Right” at a time when the director was just beginning his apprenticeship at USC film school. The Fabelmans was a film made by Steven Spielberg and told the story of a young boy growing up in post-WWII Arizona. The film is based on his childhood, but it’s also semi-autobiographical since the director himself was a boy who grew up in Arizona during that period and he tells his story through the eyes of Sammy Fabelman (played by Gabriel LaBelle), one of his characters. The film tells the story of Sammy’s dreams to become a filmmaker himself.
