American Period Drama ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ Just Got Release

The series is based upon the novel of the same name by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos and created by Harriet Warner. Camille and Valmont are one of the most frustrating couples on TV right now. They’ve got a serious “deal with the devil” thing going on. But what else would you expect from an American period drama based on the French novel, Dangerous Liaisons. At the heart of this forbidden love is the fact that all’s fair in love and war, as they say. And when it comes to Camille and Valmont, war seems to be their favourite kind of aphrodisiac. So after an entire episode of each other’s company (and putting their lives in danger), it was discovered that Valmont has quite a reputation for sleeping with everyone in France. Seems he makes it a point to tell them he loves them, just so he can take their money. So Camille has every right not to trust him or have feelings for him anymore.

What is the series about?
The series is an adaptation of the classic French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses. It follows the lives of two ex-lovers Camille (Alice Englert) and her former flame, master seducer Valmont (played by Nicholas Denton). The official synopsis reads: “After a chance encounter between two ex-lovers sets off a series of malicious games, their vicious cycle of lust, betrayal and vengeance threatens to destroy everything that they once held dear.” The plot flashes back and forth between the past, present and future as Camille’s (Alice Englert) family is targeted by their former lover, Valmont. The more we learn about Valmont, the more trouble he seems to be in. He’s not only a seducer and manipulator but he’s also a murderer, something that the show doesn’t hold back on at all. It definitely feels like once this story gets rolling, you can expect to get caught up in it right away.
What makes this series exciting?
The series looks pretty good and the writing is quite interesting. There’s way more drama than I ever expected to see and it’s really hard to stop watching. Since this is a period drama, these characters don’t have cell phones or computers or any of that stuff so it’s all about their connections with each other and their friends and family. The intrigue, the mystery, the danger – all of that makes for an amazing TV show.
Why should I watch this series?
Great character development. Gorgeous costumes and sets. Historical drama. Of course, like all the best shows it’s meant to be binge-watched, so there are plenty of mysteries to keep you hooked. The show’s producers have said they want the audience to question their own morals and relationships with others as well, since we’re all in our own versions of Camille and Valmont somewhere in this world.
