He made a video on his Instagram account, revealing that he will be a narrator for The Silmarillion audiobook version.

What is silmarillion?

 

The Silmarillion is a fictional book from J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth legendarium. It is a collection of stories about the first days of the creation of Arda, the earth. Tolkien completed The Silmarillion in 12 volumes. In 2006, Christopher Tolkien published an abridged version of The Silmarillion as part of his 50th-anniversary edition of The Lord of the Rings; it ran 51 chapters compared to over 300 in the full version. The Silmarillion is not considered a part of the main prophetical legendarium, but rather a historical origin for Middle-earth. There are several parodies of The Silmarillion in the BBC comedy series The IT Crowd, including one by Richard Ayoade’s character Mossa.

This book was written by Tolkien to help him write his great novel The Lord of the Rings. He even said that he wished he had written it first instead of LOTR. The Silmarillion was originally intended by Tolkien to be a ‘pendant’ to The Lord of the Rings, a work that was entirely different in style and presentation. Tolkien’s son Christopher has been the target of harsh criticism for editing his father’s unfinished works. In our modern times, many books are available in audio CD format that gives people an opportunity to enjoy a good story while driving or cleaning their house. One such audiobook version is The Silmarillion which is narrated by Andy Serkis.

Serkis is currently working on his career by acting in several films such as King Kong: Skull Island; Black Panther; A Monster Calls; and Bleeding Steel, among others.

Some people praised Andy Serkis’ work as Sauron and Sméagol in the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, while others thought that he was a performance model for all other Gollums in the world.
