Poltergeist is a 1982 American supernatural horror film directed by Tobe Hooper and written by Steven Spielberg. A family’s home is haunted by a host of demonic ghosts. The film follows the family as they struggle with their daughter being abducted into the world of ghosts, where she presumably dies and becomes one herself. The film features Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, Heather O’Rourke and Beatrice Straight in supporting roles .
The film features various demonic images and characters with its plot resembling those of Rosemary’s Baby (1968) and The Exorcist (1973). It also features several elements of science fiction as well. The film was shot in California and The original screenplay was written by Spielberg, but then he sold his story to producer Lawrence Gordon, who excised much of the new material to make the film more commercially viable.

What is the plot of the movie?
This movie is about a family who moves into an ordinary-looking house in Cuesta Verde. The next day, the youngest daughter starts communicating with some invisible friends on TV by using the remote control and a sudden pattern of disturbing events begin to plague them, like Carol Anne and Robbie being put in danger when they are outside playing on the tricycle. In order to save their daughter’s life and with the police unable to help them, Diane Freeling decides that her family should spend time away from their home. After being at a park for a few days, however, the family’s vacation is interrupted with strange things happening again at the house. Believing that more proof of ghosts is needed and wanting to get rid of evil spirits which are causing trouble, Diane and Steve decide to send their daughter to a special camp for troubled children. But on their way there, the Freeling family encounters strange occurrences in ways they never could have imagined and they soon learn they’re not alone in this ‘Poltergeist’ era.
