It’s an underdog story about a band that managed to survive decades of tough competition from other hard rock and metal bands by insisting on doing things its way: no budgets, no PR departments, just good old hard work. This movie has been dubbed “one of the best documentaries ever made.” It was the directing debut of Swedish filmmakers Sacha Gervasi and Evan Michael Woods. But Anvil is not the only success story for the couple who were once on a mission to get a movie made: they previously directed an award-winning piece on Johnny Cash, “Walk The Line.” “Anvil!

Story of The Anvil! The Story of Anvil
The first time I saw “Anvil: The Story of Anvil,” I knew it was going to be a hit. For several reasons, the film had been on my radar for some time and I kind of knew what to expect from it. When I watched the movie, however, things were far different than what I had imagined. To put this into perspective, let me tell you about how the film began. After watching a trailer, my wife and I sat down to watch it. After the first few minutes of the film, my wife reached over and gave me a quizzical look. “I don’t get it,” she said. “They seem young.” “Yeah,” I agreed. “But…” I explained to her what was going on in the movie, but something still wasn’t quite clicking for her at first. After about ten more minutes of watching the movie, she finally came around and felt she understood what was happening throughout most of this exceptional film.

The critically acclaimed documentary Anvil will be re-released in theatres
The Story of Anvil” is one such. Directed by Sacha Gervasi and released on 10 April 2009, the film documents three aspiring musicians as they try to make their way through the music business in Cleveland, Ohio. Despite being complete outsiders from low socioeconomic status and having no chance of breaking into high-level music organizations like CMJ or MTV, Anvil was able to create a career for themselves despite all odds. “Anvil” chronicles the intense challenges, hardships, and trials that the band had to endure to find the strength to continue.
After four years of “pre-production” and three years shooting “Anvil”, director Gervasi was able to capture a lot of information about what went into forming such a successful heavy metal band.
