Plot :

A film adaptation of the novel Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein, this movie tells the story of Johnny Rico (Clifford, played by Neil Patrick Harris) who is a good-natured young man with great athletic potential who decides to serve in the military after high school graduation. There he becomes friends with Carl Jenkins (Michael Ironside), his childhood friend and former football teammate, as well as Carmen Ibanez (Denise Richards), a feisty soldier who is majoring in nursing and has her sights set on Johnny. Together they join a Federal Service training camp where they are taught how to defend against a species of giant arachnids known as the “bugs”.

Since its release to the silver screen in 1997, Starship Troopers has been considered one of the best military science fiction movies ever made. The film was written as a subtext for political reasons, and it was produced by MCA-Universal with a budget of $186 million. If it wasn’t for the fact that this movie was released at a time where America had yet to enter its most violent phase in history, Starship Troopers would definitely be ranked among the top 10 science fiction movies ever made.

One can’t help but love this movie, from the first moment all the way through until it’s very end. The cast is outstanding, the acting is superb, the set and special effects are not bad at all and it was directed by Paul Verhoeven who, overall, has one of the best visual arts in his career.
