Ewan McGregor Dispels Obi-Wan Kenobi Confirmation Rumors

Ewan McGregor has confirmed rumors surrounding his return to the Star Wars franchise, in a new interview on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show. The rumors have been making rounds for years, questioning whether or not Ewan McGregor will appear in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII as Obi-Wan Kenobi -the character Obi-Wan is based on from the original trilogy.

Story of The Obi-Wan Kenobi

The Star Wars prequel trilogy wasn’t particularly well received by fans. The movies included scenes that had been cut from the original trilogy. And some of the scripts were poorly written or lacking in humor, to name a few negative aspects. In response to this, George Lucas rushed production on the film. The official story of the movie is that after Star Wars Episode III. So, Obi-Wan disappears and nobody knows what happened to him. In 2003 when George Lucas decided to make a new trilogy, he thought there was something he had to tell us.

He wanted it to be an important story so he explained the disappearance of Obi-Wan as a part of this trilogy. George Lucas says that “He was afraid for his life.” and that “I couldn’t start with Episode IV on page one anymore because I would have been competing with my movies.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi TV Series, According to Ewan McGregor

Actor Ewan McGregor has said that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series was originally planned to be an Obi-Wan Kenobi film. He mentioned this whilst being interviewed by Graham Norton on his show. Also, speaking about his reasons for deciding to return once more, even though the previous trilogy had finished. Ewan McGregor first spoke about this in January of this year. But now the news has resurfaced during a later interview with Graham Norton. McGregor then went on to say that he would have submitted a screenplay before if Lucasfilm had not decided against it, stating “I wanted to submit one [sic] and they didn’t want to do it.
