Julianna, a woman Rand came to know in his youth, is among them and she tells him that he has been brought there by the Horn of Valere to serve the Light.

As a powerful channeler who can be summoned from other worlds, Rand is not the only one who was brought here by the Horn. Loial, an Ogier, is also present. Local cannot channel but he can read the books written by his kind and know how to find them in the world outside the city of Tar Valon.
