What are the difficulties they face?
The difficulties they face in this story are one. They have to find the nature of Holga’s wards, which is why they must travel through time and place, two they must act quickly to make sure that the king doesn’t find out about these dangers, three they have to make sure that Amleth fulfills his vow, and four they must fit in with history. The themes of this story are one. Intrigue, two. Betrayal, three. Revenge and four puzzle pieces fit together (the relationships between Amleth and his mother, cousin, and uncle, who each has a role to fulfill).
What is the climax like?
The climax is when Valhal challenges Amleth to a bet because he knows his wife’s betrayal and Amleth wins that bet. Valhal challenges him to make a puzzle fit together, but because he had the advantage on Amleth, the puzzle pieces were cut in the wrong place and then put together. The climax is also when King Hákon tells Amleth about what happened to his mother and that she is still alive. This leads us to the end of the story.
Who is the antagonist? What are its motives?
The antagonist is Valhal, who is a high-ranking priest and the king’s closest adviser. The antagonist’s motives are to keep the history going in the right direction and to prevent Amleth from finding out that his mother is still alive. Also, because he has betrayed his wife and queen, he knows that Amleth will avenge him by killing him as well The epic scenes are the battles with different historical periods where Amleth faces death, betrayals, and great dangers.
A battle he faces is when he has to deal with his cousin and uncle for them to be killed by him. He also takes part in a great battle that he should probably not have taken part in, but because it was so great and because of the might of it, he goes on a good luck charm that will help him win the battle. Another powerful moment was when Amleth fights against a beast and slices off its head, but because it’s such a powerful beast at first glance, Amleth is so afraid that he forgets about his goal and decides to let it go.
Would you recommend watching this?
I wouldn’t recommend watching this because I didn’t like the ending. It made me feel as if it was a very unfinished story and that the ending was unsatisfying. Also, there were things left unexplained, but I guess that’s because of the period from which this story is taken. Thanks for reading!
