ViacomCBS’ premium cable station has renewed The Chi for a fifth season just hours after the fourth season finale aired. The pick-up arrives just hours after the Chicago-set drama’s fourth season finale aired.

Season four of The Chi is on pace to be the most-streamed series ever at Showtime, with an estimated 4.2 million weekly viewers across all platforms.

Showtime does not provide streaming data, like other media companies. The Chi averages about 300,000 on-air viewers for each episode according to Nielsen same-day ratings. With delayed viewing and streaming accounting for more than 90 percent of the weekly count.

The series, created by Lena Waithe, follows residents of Chicago’s South Side who are initially connected by circumstance but become bonded through the desire for connection and atonement.
