The Good Doctor Season 5: The Return of Shaun Murphy

The ABC drama “The Good Doctor” is a medical show based on the South Korean award-winning series, “Good Doctor.” Freddie Highmore, who many will recognize from movies like “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Bates Motel,” stars as Dr. Shaun Murphy. The twenty-six-year-old doctor starts working at the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital in Season 1 and faces challenges, including autism spectrum disorder, with his photographic memory that he relies on most of his life.

In addition to Highmore, “The Good Doctor” stars Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Browne, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, and Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, president of the hospital and a mentor to Shaun.

After premiering, it was well-received by critics, with Highmore receiving a Golden Globe nomination for his performance. Since then, the series has had four seasons, and a fifth season is slated for released soon enough.

The Good Doctor season five release date has yet to be revealed, although last week Damon told Deadline he expects filming to start in July.

The Good Doctor Season 5 Release Details:

“The Good Doctor” has received the good news that it’s been renewed for a fifth season by ABC (via Variety), which shows no signs of slowing down at all. “The Good Doctor” isn’t the only ABC series getting a renewal. Along with “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Goldbergs,” there were also renewals for rookie crime drama “Big Sky.”

It’s unclear when Season 5 will premiere, though the show usually premieres in September. The last season premiered late because of a production problem with the pandemic.

If the fifth season does not air in October or November, expect its premiere to take place at some point in 2022.

As a long-running series, “The Good Doctor” has main characters who are expected to continue on. One such character is Shaun (played by Freddie Highmore), while others include Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff) and Dr. Claire Browne Harper ).

Along with that, it’s too early to tell if or when any new supporting players might join the cast because those are entirely dependent on where the story goes.

The Good Doctor Season 5 Plot Synopsis:

“The Good Doctor” Season 4 tackles many of the struggles young couples face and reach some momentous conclusions while also maintaining character integrity.

It’s unfortunate–the couple goes through a lot over the course of the show, and by the end, they are at their breaking point as Lea considers moving back with her parents.

Elsewhere, Rob (Thomas) and Rachel are confronted with a patient of theirs that has PTSD, as well as possibly partaking in therapy. They travel to Guatemala for ten days to learn more about the country’s health in relation to leprosy, alongside Lea and Shaun.

Rachel makes significant progress with a man at the hospital named Dr. Mateo Rendón Osma (Osvaldo Benavides), while Andrew reflects on his marital problems within himself back home.

After packing up to leave, Lea changes her mind and decides to stay with Shaun. Despite this welcome change in plans, Claire leaves for Guatemala without celebrating the engagement as a staff doctor.

Despite the departure of a popular cast member, Season 4 sets up storylines that will likely lead into Season 5. “The Good Doctor” has always addressed difficult topics in the past, and fans should expect similar issues to be brought up in Season 5, like when it took on coronavirus or racism.
