Laurence Fishburne reveals why he is not in Matrix 4!
Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus would not be the same without Laurence Fishburne. And while fans await the third installment of The Matrix franchise nearly as eagerly as the second one did, Laurence has some bad news for them: out of respect to his former co-stars, Laurence refuses to take part in the upcoming film.
“I wouldn’t want to just come in for a bite,” Laurence told MTV at Sundance Film Festival recently (where Laurence was promoting his indie drama Brooklyn’s Finest). “What do they say? Coming back like Michael Jordan, playing baseball or something? It doesn’t find me.” Laurence believes that his absence in the fourth installment would not be a good thing. “If I came back, it has to be meaningful,” Laurence told MTV.
“It wouldn’t just be like Laurence Fishburne comes in for this one little thing because people feel, well, he was important to the first one (Matrix).” Laurence’s revelation has been a great disappointment to fans of Matrix who hoped Laurence could reprise his role as Morpheus in the sequel.
Laurence Fishburne character in Matrix
Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus have become iconic characters, particularly Morpheus. The character was portrayed by Laurence with much depth and realism, which had elevated him into a cult favorite overnight after audiences saw how he handled himself after he was captured by Laurence, his nemesis. Laurence’s acting was so believable the producers of Matrix considered Laurence for other roles in the Matrix franchise! Laurence said the following about Morpheus: “I’d love to play him again,” he offers. “You’re talking to someone who would jump at that chance.”
Laurence Fishburne says there is no script yet.
It will be interesting to know how Laurence views Neo’s rise from The Matrix 1, and its sequels since Laurence’s character did not see what Neo had been up to after Morpheus freed him. According to Laurence: “I haven’t seen a script, I’m being honest with you – I’ve read rumors on the internet. I think a script has to be written, and then maybe I’ll get to see it. This is what I understand about it.”
It will be almost impossible for Laurence as Morpheus not to have an emotional reaction at seeing his character Neo in the real world again; Laurence Fishburne said: “I would love that – you know what? To try to find him emotionally and psychologically four years later would be really fun.” Laurence said he was also considering starring in other movies since Matrix Revolutions did not feature much of Nebuchadnezzar with Laurence’s character (he came back only once towards the end). He added: “So I’m always looking for my next thing,” he says.
Matrix 4 Release Date
According to Laurence Fishburne, he is not in the Matrix 4 because they have not started filming yet. It’s a long wait for us before we can watch this movie. Rumors claimed that it might be released in 2021, but there is no official date yet!
However, recently there has been an official announcement regarding Matrix 4. And the statement says that the movie is set to hit the big screens on 16th December 2021.
Matrix 4 Star Cast
The movie contains some big stars such as:
Keanu Reeves as Neo
Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson
Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity
Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian
Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe
Can we expect some star guest appearances in “The Matrix 4”?
Laurence Fishburne, who played Morpheus, told IGN that he was not invited to reprise his role in the fourth installment of the films. “I didn’t get any call from anyone saying they wanted me to be in it,” Laurence Fishburne said. “So I think maybe… probably not.”
Although Laurence himself wasn’t asked for a return in Matrix 4 still, we can expect some unexpected reunions. There is a small chance that he will appear at least as archive footage or via flashbacks because Laurence said: “But I do think there’s probably a lot of people that would like to see Morpheus again and see where he is.”
Will “The Matrix 4” be worth watching, according to Laurence Fishburne?
Laurence Fishburne has revealed his thoughts on the upcoming Matrix 4 saying that he thinks it was a bad idea to make it. Laurence said: “I don’t know if I like the world we live in now where you have sequels to things that are 20 years old.” Laurence added: “The story must be amazing for them to think of going back into that world.” He continued: “When everyone loved the movie and they leave the theater feeling great talking about this wonderful experience… But then you start thinking again and you go, ‘Wait, did I just see that?’ It takes a while for people to digest what they saw.”
