The Testaments: Cast, Plot and what else we know so far!

The Testaments

“The Handmaid’s Tale” Hulu is based on “Margaret Atwood” prophetic novel of 1985. It was the debut in 2017 to reflect rising politicians and the rising political tension in the United States. The story takes place in a dystopian version, where the totalitarian Government has instituted itself, and the fertility rates among women have dropped drastically. As a result, women have most of their rights stripped away, and the ones who could bear babies had to go through stringent rules and regulations.

At the center of “The Handmaid’s Tale” is Offred (Elizabeth Moss), who becomes a child-bearer against her wishes and fights the Government to bring back justice to the world. Offred may not be out of the woods yet, especially seeing how Hulu has renewed the show for a new season.

Plot

The world is ruled by a totalitarian regime with deadly consequences for those who refuse to comply. This dystopian future offers no hope (and also has an interesting tie-in to current events). At first glance, it seems like there are two Handmaid’s Tales with “The Testaments.” However, these books offer an alternate reality to what happened in the previous series. The Testaments are set in the future, which is a dystopia where women and men have taken on traditional gender roles to survive. Women live in colonies while men run society from behind closed doors.

What we know so far!

  • This a sequel series that picks up where the original book left off. It’s set 15 years after Offred was taken away from her daughter and husband (remember those guys?) in Gilead, which has now become America.
  • The pilot for the show has been greenlit and will air on April 26th.
  • Elisabeth Moss is one of the most famous actors in Hollywood right now, with multiple Golden Globe wins under her belt. She’s also taken home four Emmys as well. We can’t wait to see what she does next!

Cast

The only actress we would assume will appear in “The Testaments” is Ann Dowd, who plays Aunt Lydia on “The Handmaids Tale.” She is an antagonist in that story but turns out to be the protagonist in this story.

This is only what we can declare about the cast as of now.

Release Date

We can wildly guess about the release date of “The Testaments.” Seeing how season 4 ended on June 16, 2021, Season 5 won’t come out before 2022 at the earliest.
