“You’re living your dream,” said Rudd. “I had never been so excited by the idea of playing someone else before.” He then went on to say that he read some previous scripts written for him because he wanted something completely different from anything he’d done before: “As I started reading them, I realized how much more connected and alive I felt when I wasn’t playing myself. I think there’s this impulse to want to play someone very close to you, and that might be because it makes the process smoother or easier for some reason.”

“But as soon as I started reading these scripts where it was a stranger—someone with their own set of flaws, idiosyncrasies, obsessions, insecurities–I felt more like my veins were open,” he continued. “You know how your eyes dilate when you’ve been staring at something too long? It feels like that but inside me.”
