Coming soon: Toxic Avenger reboot starring Elijah Wood and Julia Davis

Elijah Wood and Julia Davis are set to star in a reboot of the 1984 cult classic, The Toxic Avenger. The original film starred former professional wrestler Steve “The Toxic Avenger” Trevante as Melvin Ferd III, an unlikely hero who seeks his revenge against the corrupt mayor of Tromaville. In this new adaptation, which is currently being filmed in Toronto, Wood will play the lead role with Davis as his sidekick Shelly.

Elijah Wood is an English actor and producer. He made his film debut with a leading role in Back to the Future Part II (1989) at age nine, when he was chosen by director Robert Zemeckis for his bright personality and willingness to take on difficult parts as an actor.

Julia Davis is also British but lives in Montréal, Québec. She has been classified as one of Britain’s top comedians, best known for her roles on television programs such as The Comic Strip Presents… series.”

Kaufman said he is “very happy” with Bousman being at the helm of this project because of his work on films like Saw II, III, and IV; Repo! The Genetic Opera; Mother Of Tears (Three Mothers Trilogy); Murder Rock & Drag Me To Hell.

Bousman added: “[The film] will have a lot more fighting in it but still rooted in who Toxie was originally… It has some really cool set pieces that are just amazing”.

The film will be directed by Sam Fell (“Over Your Dead Body”) while Elijah Wood plays our titular hero.
