King Richard is an upcoming American Biological Drama film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Zach Baylin. The film follows Richard Williams, the father and coach of Serena and Venus Williams. It stars Will Smith, Aunjanue Ellis, John Bernthal, Saniyya Sidney, and Demi Singleton.

Plot

The movie chronicles his journey to become a kingpin drug lord in West Baltimore with his wife’s support at first until she eventually learns about her husband’s illegal business dealings, which leads to their divorce while he is still struggling with his father’s death. Based on a true story, the film was met with mixed reviews and criticisms over its lack of realism and historical accuracy.

The Story of King Richard

King Richard is based on the true story of a West Baltimore drug kingpin who ruled during the 1990s with a strict code. What he wanted was peace and order—and power to keep it that way. In King Richard’s world, women were property, drugs were currency, but most importantly for him was respect–for himself as well as from others on the street. He made sure everyone knew what would happen if anyone crossed him or those under his protection–a bullet through an ear lobe being among the more common threats delivered by Dave (John Bernthal), who enforced these rules ruthlessly on behalf of King Richard while also running various errands akin to bodyguard.
