This is the first international starring role for Keanu Reeves, and it’s certainly not your average thriller with him playing an American engineer living in Tokyo whose wife goes missing one day. He sets off on this cat-and-mouse chase across Japan involving corrupt cops and dirty government officials trying to find his wife Kathy (played by Ayumi Ishida) who conveniently enough does have some secrets she can offer up.

The film also stars Japanese actresses Shinobu Terajima, Rinko Kikuchi, and actress-singer Kana Nishino as well as Togo Igawa (Memoirs of a Geisha).

The film also features Japanese actors Ayumi Ishida (Doug’s wife Kathy), Masatoshi Nagase (assassin Hideki Akimoto), Takashi Tsukamoto (gang boss Kizaki ), and Tsutomu Yamazaki( corrupt politician Saisho). The screenplay was written by Michael Ferris – whose credits include “I am Sam” and “A Few Good Men.”

The movie has been described as ‘Speed’ meets Liam Neeson’s 2014 plane thriller, Non-Stop.

Bullet Train was filmed in Japan and Thailand with production company Funimation handling post-production work. The project was first announced on May 17th, 2017, for release in 2018 – but it will now be released on February 22nd, 2019.
