A Castlevania Spinoff Series is coming to Netflix

Netflix has announced that it will be releasing a Castlevania series. Castlevania is a popular video game franchise with origins dating back to the 1980s; Netflix hopes to capitalize on this by producing an original animation drama based on it. The show will have four 30 minute episodes in total, and the first one will air sometime later this year.

The Castlevania series will be created by Adi Shankar, the producer of “Dredd,” and it is being written by Warren Ellis. The animation style has been described as a mix between anime and Western art, with some shots in each episode taking inspiration from paintings like Balthus’ ‘Young Girl Reading.’

Ellis has already written the first episode, and Shankar is looking for someone to take on the project of writing the remaining three.

The Netflix show now has a cast list of its own, and we couldn’t be more excited! Creator Warren Ellis is writing the first episode with “Castlevania” producer Fred Seibert on board as executive producer. It’s been revealed that Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance), Kevin Kolde (“Rick & Morty”), and Andrea Romano are all voice actors for the upcoming project.

The series is slated for four 30-minute installments, with Netflix planning on releasing one episode per year. The first season’s episodes are set in 1476 Transylvania, where “the last vampire” (Dracula) wants revenge against humanity. After being betrayed by the humans at the signing of their peace treaty, which led him into an eternal slumber, he awakens now because his castle has been destroyed 200 years after the treaty.
