In the episode entitled “Black Jesus Blues,” Jefferson Pierce finds out his daughter Jennifer; is pregnant by Khalil or Painkiller; rather than him when he tells her, she needs to be careful. She tells her father she’s considering an abortion, and Jefferson thinks to himself, “I’m not ready for a grandchild.” After he leaves the room, Jennifer goes into labor!

In the final moments of Black Lightning Season, in five finales, we see Thunder packing up as Lynn; is taking care of baby Khalil. We don’t know if they are going on vacation; or where they’re driving off to. But it seems like something really bad might happen. The episode ends with lightning crackling behind them before cutting to black and white static.

Before the Black Lightning series finale aired, there had been a lot of speculation that Jefferson and Lynn would die in this episode. This idea was put forth by rumors on social media as well as some TV critics who believed they knew what to expect based on the season trailer released earlier in 2018. Other theories suggested that Jennifer might be killed off or possibly marry Khalil, while another rumor circulated about Tobias being revealed to have survived his death at Freeland Prison. Jefferson and Anissa are still retired from being superheroes, but they want to help Freeland as much as possible. Lynn is now working in Philadelphia, where she will be able to investigate Hargrove Industries without interference from Tobias Whale. Jennifer continues her work at Garfield High School and starts dating Khalil again after he returns from his internship abroad. And finally, Jennifer begins learning how to use her powers more effectively when an old enemy comes back into town: the one who killed Gambi!
