Along with the development of telecommunications technology, television technology is also experiencing development. In the past, television used the term Prime Time which usually lasted around 7 pm where all family members gathered to have dinner together, now it has changed to My Time.
Prime Time is usually used by product and service manufacturers to advertise by paying higher fees for advertising in this time slot. The programs that are displayed at this time are chosen which are in demand by many viewers.
So what if the audience wants to watch soap operas, Kick Andy or The Master that they haven’t watched before? Now technology has made it possible for these favorite shows to be watched whenever and wherever the audience wants them. This is what is meant by My Time. With the increasingly affordable cost of fast internet access supported by gadgets, it is now possible for users to watch TV from a laptop or gadget anywhere and anytime. When waiting for the busway, traffic jams or when you are free at the office, you can use it to watch.
The technologies that make this possible are NetTV (internet TV) and IPTV technology. What’s the difference between the two? The difference can be seen from various points of view. Net TV is watching videos, music clips of content available on the internet, accessed from any ISP (Internet Service Provider), usually without the need for a subscription and of low quality because this content is made amateurishly. Watching Net TV can be from a laptop, PC, or cellphone at any time, forwarded, paused or saved for later viewing. An example of NetTV is You Tube. On You Tube we can watch soap operas Air. If you need entertainment when you are bored at the office or while waiting in line, you can watch comedy videos on You Tube and other sites that also provide a place to accommodate videos made by amateurs.
NetTV in Several Countries
NetTV abroad has now started to provide professional-made content, such as I-Player on the UK BBC, but access to this content is usually subject to a subscription fee or limited to access by certain ISP subscribers only. Unlike NetTV, IPTV is the latest technology with high quality content, usually only accessible by subscribing to one ISP. IPTV allows watching premium programs such as HBO, Disney Channel or Free To Air (FTA) content such as RCTI, SCTV and others at home using high-speed internet protocols so as to provide better picture quality. In addition to these pay and free TV shows, usually there are quality content produced or specifically provided by ISPs for education, entertainment and others that can be saved, pause, or forward .
IPTV is currently very popular overseas such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Europe. The presence of IPTV has enabled many online casinos to have never thought of before, for example tele-education which enables distance learning, tele-shopping for shopping from home, and even tele medicine for remote medical assistance.
In Indonesia, IPTV was pioneered by Telkom as the leader of the internet market in Indonesia. The presence of IPTV will present a new way of watching television and of course will provide more options for the public in determining quality and useful viewing options.
Well, the presence of IPTV is marked by the issuance of an Internet Protocol Television Service Operation license stipulated by the Minister of Communications and Informatics Muhammad Nuh. Permit No. 30 / PER / M.KOMINFO / 8/2009 concerning the Implementation of Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) Services provides legal certainty for operators or ISPs planning to provide IPTV services for customers.
As is known, IPTV services allow television broadcasts to be sent using the Internet Protocol (IP). By using IP, IPTV provides many advantages that are not owned by ordinary cable TV. The advantages of IPTV include excellent image quality because the images on IPTV are digital images. In addition to Standard Definition (SD) images, there are also much sharper images with High Definition (HD) quality.
